• To discover all the foods you really enjoy.
• To increase the use of high flavor foods that do no harm…
that you love to eat.
• To reduce the concentration of saturated fats, sodium and refined
(low fibre) carbohydrates so that THREAT can become TREAT.
PS. Of course you can do all this for someone you love… all they
have to do is fill in the same list.
PS. The single letter that changes “TREAT” to “THREAT”
is “H”. “H” stands for HIGH… in saturated
fats, sodium, refined carbohydrates, portion sizes…
• You get in touch with your senses.
• You find out there’s a lot you like to eat that likes you!
• You find new foods you’ve never tried before
• You see how easy it is to be creative.
• You eat better (and may feel better than ever!).
• Taste (tastes) T
• Smell (aromas) A
• Sight (colors) C
• Touch (textures) T
• I’ve also added another A for ambiance (atmosphere)
• Diabetes I and II
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• High cholesterol (especially LDLs)
• Overweight
• Some cancers (digestive)
• Heart disease
…then your health care professionals can use your individual food
preferences to help you design a ‘food styling’ that meets
all your needs.

Each of your senses (such as sweet taste) is divided
into degrees (from maximum to minimum in descending order of intensity
as determined by Graham Kerr).
Please check once in the appropriate column, either:
i. Like it
ii. Don’t like it
iii. Don’t know
Your “Like it” choices will mark foods to be used often.
The “don’t like”
list need not be due to the overall appeal; it may be a carryover from
your childhood and with an adult taste… you may find it delicious.
When in doubt, use a query(?). When your known dislikes occur in a recipe
(i.e. anchovy in a Caesar salad)… just select another ‘salty’
food you do like…like capers… and switch it. Who knows…
you may fall over a great new combination (and it will be yours!)
The “don’t know”
list represents your passport to culinary adventure. The wider your preference
list… the greater your potential for both pleasure and good health.
Simply keep the list and buy items one at a time to check them out.
Family Fun! You can get each family
member to complete his/her own list and then mark up a master list of
“I like”. This will be your own ‘signature’ flavor
profile as a family. Try using it to create your very own soup or casserole/stew
or vegetable or fruit salad. When once you try it and like it then its
yours and much more likely to be used again and again.
This shouldn’t take more than 30
minutes… but please take your time. You may want to
complete this in sections, rather than tackling all of your senses at
once. Your answers may greatly influence the quality of your life over
years to come.
