34. A Rising Tide

Recession: On the surface an economic recession looks like bad news. And yet…for some?  Have you benefited from having to survive a recession?

Status Quo Consumption: In an effort to resist change there are people who profit from the status quo who push back. Has such a response ever slowed you down?

Academia as status: I used an “adjunct” professor post to gain “status”. Have you seen this done by others? Did it work?

Recession: My economic life has always been stable with just enough (and a bit extra) so weathering a recession went somewhat by me. My IRA funds took a loss but I was years before needing to access them and now that I do have to take a bit out each year, the loss from years ago has not affected my being able to have financial security today – just enough and a little bit more! 🙂

Status Quo Consumption: A lot has slowed me down in life (not by choice but by circumstances). But I have never experienced being pushed back from others who were out for profit. It sounds like I was spared a bad experience!

Academia as status: I have heard of others rising to this status and finding their identity in the status rather than a deeper place of inner stability. But, who am I to judge? Perhaps their status was in conjunction with a deeper place of stability and they would have been fine without the status recognition. The two can co-exist if the earning has come gradually on a road traveled well.
